Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Q: Can I transfer my registration to another person or roll over my registration to the next year?
A: There are absolutely no transfers, roll overs, or refunds given for any reason, including medical reasons. However, you can change your registration from one event to another. For example, if you registered for the marathon, you may change your registration to the half marathon. If you wish to change from the half marathon to the marathon, you would need to pay the difference between the price you paid for the half marathon and the current price for the marathon.

Q: Can I pick up my Bib and Chip on Sunday?
A: There is no Day-of-Race Bib and Chip Packet Pick-up. All Bib and Chip Packets must be picked up on Friday November 28th or Saturday November 29th at the Westin Seattle.

Q: Can I register Day-of-Race?
A: There are no Day-of-Race registration or event changes. You may register at the Westin Seattle on Friday November 28th 11:00am-8:00pm or Saturday November 29th 11:00am-8:00pm. Event changes may be made at this time as well.

Q: When can I pick up my Bib and Chip?
A: Bib and Chip Packet Pick up is on Friday November 28th 11:00am-8:00pm or Saturday November 29th 11:00am-8:00pm at the Westin Seattle. After picking up your packet, go through the EXPO to pick up your participant shirts and Goody Bags. The Seattle Westin is located at 1900 Fifth Avenue in downtown Seattle.

Q: Can someone else pick up my packet?
A: Yes. All you have to do is give them a note signed by you giving them permission.

Q: Where is the Start Line?
A: Seattle Center in front of the Experience Music Project (EMP), between Broad and Harrison on 5th. A map is located in the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008 Official Event Guide and our event information pages.

Q: Will I get an E-mail with my results?
A: If you provide an email address you will receive an email with your results within 10 minutes of crossing the finish line.

Q: Will there be pacers?
A: We will have the Super Jock 'n Jill/Chuckit Pacer Team for the Full and Half Marathon. They will be providing pacers for a Half Marathon finish time of 1:30, 1:45. 2:00, 2:20 and 2:45. Full Marathon paces will be provided for finish times of 3:30, 3:45, 4:00 and 4:45. These times are several Boston Qualifying times for different age groups, check the Boston Athletic Association website for more details. If you would like to find out info about the pacers you may do so by inquiring at the SJJ booth in EXPO from 11:00pm-8:00pm Friday November 28th and 11:00am-7:00pm Saturday November 29th. If you want to meet the pacers you can do so on Saturday at 3:30pm at the SJJ booth in EXPO.

Q: Do I get a shirt with my entry or do I have to pay extra for it?
A: Registered participants will receive a long sleeve technical fabric shirt with their entry. These shirts are picked up at the Westin Seattle when participants pick up their bib and chip. Additional souvenir type Finisher shirts may be purchased, as well as other merchandise including hats and sweatshirts, online at www.seattlemarathon.org, at EXPO and the Victory Recovery Area in the Seattle Center Exposition Hall.

Q: Where do I pick up my Finishers Shirt?
A: Finisher Shirts will be available for pickup in the Bib & Chip Packet Pickup area. Please pick up your packet first then your finisher shirt. Then proceed to EXPO to get your goody bag and participant shirt.

Q: Where can I buy a Finishers Shirt?
A: Finisher Shirts will be available to buy at the merchandise booth at EXPO as well as the merchandise booth in the Victory Recovery area, however you are not guaranteed a shirt unless you have preordered. Limited sizes and quantities available.

Q: What do I do if I don't have a confirmation card?
A: All packets are organized by event and then alphabetically by last name. You will not need a confirmation card to pick up your packet. However, if you are picking up a packet for a friend, you will need his or her confirmation card or a note.

Q: When and where is the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008 EXPO?
A: The Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008 EXPO is Friday November 28th 11:00am-8:00pm and Saturday November 29th 11:00am-7:00pm at the Westin Seattle's Grand Ballroom.

Q: Where do I park on Sunday Morning?
A: Wherever you can find parking. Street parking is free on Sunday, and there are also several lots in the area.

Q: Can the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008 be used as a Boston Qualifier?
A: Yes, please visit the Boston Athletic Association website for more details.

Q: How hilly is the course?
A: The course is moderately hilly with long stretches of flat. There is a course map with an elevation chart included in the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008 Event Guide. You may also view the elevation chart here as a PDF (1380k) or a brief synopsis as a JPG (33k).

Q: How far is the Start Line from the Westin Seattle?
A: About ¾ of a mile.

Walking route to the Start from the Westin Hotel:
You may also walk to the Start of your event by heading North on 5th Ave. Follow the Monorail track (running above 5th Ave.) to the start at 5th and Harrison. The start is approximately 8 blocks from the Westin.

Q: How far is it to the airport from the finish line?
A: About 15.59 Miles. Estimated time without traffic, 26 minutes.

Q: How is this race being timed?
A: All events will be timed using the Winning Time Chip Technology. Each participant will be given a special, unique transponder that will be used to record your start and finish time. All results are based on Gun-time, however an "actual time" will be given to each participant as well as split times along the course. The chip must be returned at the finish line, a $30 fee will be charged for each unreturned chip.

Q: Where are the splits times recorded along the course?
A: Split times will be recorded at the half way point for each event.

Q: May I use my Champion Chip?
A: No. This race is timed using the Winning Time Chip. It will be given to you when you pick up your packet and must be returned when you cross the finish line. The two systems are not compatible.

Q: Where can I sign up to volunteer?
A: This web site, or call the Seattle Marathon Association office to sign up as a volunteer or you may sign up outside of the main doors going into the Grand Ballroom at the Volunteer Sign Up Table on November 28th & 29th at the Westin Seattle.

Q: What should I wear during the Run/Walk?
A: Breathable clothing such as Polypropylene and Coolmax are materials that wick away moisture and keep you at a comfortable temperature. Avoid cotton. Be aware that long runs may cause chafing.  Wear appropriate clothing.

Q: Where can I put clothing for after the race?
A: There will be an area for checking clothing at Memorial Stadium in the north side bleachers. A bag for clothing check will be provided in your goody bag.

Q: What is the weather going to be like?
A: Historically, late fall weather in Seattle has cloudy but calm skies and temperatures in the low to mid 40's. Always expect rain.

Q: What time does the race start?
A: Marathon at 8:15am, Half Marathon at 7:30am, Marathon Walk at 7:15am, Half Marathon Walk at 7:45am on Sunday November 30th at 5th & Harrison. The Kids Marathon is at 10:00am on Saturday November 29th at 5th & Republican. The 5K Run is at 9:00am on Saturday November 29th at Myrtle Edwards Park.

Q: How long is the course open?
A: Due to traffic and safety concerns, it is necessary to officially re-open all event routes to regular vehicular traffic at 2:15 p.m. This allows for a 7-hour Marathon Walk Finish and a 6-hour Marathon run finish. There will be limited on-course aid stations, Course Marshalls, and police support after the course closes. Participants may continue along the course after the official closure by obeying all standard traffic control devices. Finish line staff and essential services will remain until every athlete has completed the event. Additionally, all marathon participants still on the I-90 floating bridge after 11:00 a.m. will be bussed to the end of the bridge and allowed to Finish the marathon (allows a 25 min/mile pace for walkers and an 18 min/mile pace for runners).

Q: What time are they handing out awards?
A: Half Marathon Men's & Women's Overall awards at 9:30am; Half Marathon Age Division awards at 11:00am; Marathon Men's Overall awards at 1:30pm; Marathon Women's Overall awards at 12:00pm; Marathon Age Division awards at 1:30pm. All awards ceremonies will be in the Victory Recovery Area at the Seattle Center Exposition Hall.

Q: What awards will be given out?
A: The top 3 men and women overall, the top Master Man and Woman and the top three active military men and women will be given awards. Also, Age Division Awards in 5-year age groupings will be given. There will be awards for wheelchair participants.

Q: What time and where is the pasta dinner?
A: The Carbo Load dinner is at 6:00pm on Saturday November 29th at the Westin Seattle.

Q: How long is a Marathon?
A: A marathon is 26.2 miles; a half marathon is 13.1 miles.

Q: Are dogs allowed at the recovery area/finish/course?
A: No. Dogs are not allowed anywhere on the course, at the finish in Memorial Stadium or in the recovery area.

Q: Do you give awards to walkers?
A: No, we only have awards for the Run events, however walkers receive the same finishers medal and amenities as the runners.

Q: Is the finisher medal the same for walkers and runners?
A: Yes, the medal is the same.

Q: What is the energy drink that will be provided at the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2008?
A: Lemon - Lime Gatorade Endurance Formula.

Q: What happens if I become injured after I enter and can not participate?
A: There are no medical comps, rollovers or refunds, nor can you transfer your registration to another person.

Q: What happens if I am unable to participant in the event after I register?
A: There are no refunds.
