The Seattle Marathon Association is thrilled to partner with Random Acts and the cast of the CW’s Supernatural at this year’s event. Random Acts is a global, charitable organization founded by Supernatural television actor Misha Collins and dedicated to conquering the world, one random act of kindness at a time. From delivering flowers to a nursing home to delivering aid after a crisis, Random Acts’ supporters brighten the world and make a difference every day in hundreds of countries.

Random Acts’ largest annual fundraiser is Endure 4 Kindness, a weekend-long event that challenges supporters to endure an activity for a sustained period.

This year, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, Rachel Miner, Adam Fergus and Jason Manns are banding together to support Endure 4 Kindness by running in the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon to raise funds to alleviate childhood hunger in food insecure areas around the globe.

Additionally, Random Acts staff and supporters will be collecting non-perishable food bank donations at the Expo table on Saturday, November 24, for Move for Hunger.

BONUS: Anyone who donates a minimum of $10 to Random Acts, can email for a discount on their marathon registration.

The Westin Seattle 5K Shakeout Run on Nov 23

As long-time partners with the Seattle Marathon, The Westin Seattle offers a 5k shakeout run for participants staying at The Westin for the event.

On Friday, November 23 at 5pm, join The Westin Seattle team for a 5k run at a gentle pace to loosen up and prepare for the marathon on Sunday.

If you have any running-related questions or needs throughout the Marathon weekend please reach out to the Service Express team at the hotel.

Course Marshals fill a vital volunteer role on Race Day. Without course marshals on the route to ensure the safety of our runners and walkers, the race would not happen.

Course Marshals enjoy the excitement of being on the course in the midst of the participants, while ensuring that everyone stays safe from vehicular traffic and knows which way to go on the course.

Course Marshals work in pairs and require no special knowledge or skills. Training is provided before the event. All ages are welcome. Parents can pair up with their children or teens to work as a team.

If you're not running the event this year, we hope you will join us on the course as a volunteer. If you are running, then please urge your friends and family to consider supporting you on the course as a Course Marshal volunteer.

For more information about Course Marshals or other volunteer opportunities, email us at

Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2018

Big news! We've come up with all new courses for both our full and half marathon routes. You'll be going new places, seeing new things, while still enjoying the excellent Seattle Marathon experience you've come to expect.

We're really excited about the changes, and we think you will be too. We listened to your feedback about last year's course, and we worked to make this one more runner (and walker) friendly, with less hills. That's right. This year's course is much flatter than last year. Here's a comparison:

2017 Courses

Half Marathon - 1075 ft gain
Full Marathon - 1468 ft gain

2018 Courses

Half Marathon - 807 ft gain
Full Marathon - 1165 ft gain

That's 25% less elevation gain on the half marathon course and 21% less on the full marathon! You're welcome.

Full Marathon Run / Walk - 7:30 am
Half Marathon Run / Walk - 8:00 am

Summer. Fun in the sun, relaxing at the beach, barbeques. And marathon training?

Marathon training might not be the first thing we think of when images of summer come to mind but, if you're running a fall marathon, it needs to be a fact of life.

The good news is that you're training for the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon, which is later in the fall. If you were running an early October marathon, you would have to do a lot of the hardest training right through the heat of July and August. Instead, you get to push back the bulk of that training to September and October. That said, you still need to get some important work done in the summer months.

So how do you beat the heat while getting that important work done? Here are a few things to keep in mind while laying your base over the summer.

Beat the heat. Early morning is the coolest time of the day. It's also when pollution levels are at their lowest if you live in an area where pollution is a concern. If early morning just doesn't work for you, late evening will typically give you a reprieve from the humidity and slightly more moderate temperatures than midday.

Hydrate. Did you know that most of us are walking around in a perpetual state of at least moderate dehydration? Think about hydration as a 24/7 pursuit, not just something you worry about during your runs. What's the best drink to hydrate with? Plain old water.

Slow down. As the heat and humidity rise, so should your paces. Your body is working harder to manage the heat and keep your body temperature at a safe level. Don't overwork it by trying to force it to maintain the same paces in the heat as you were running in the spring. Don't worry. Your paces will recover in the fall if you don't break yourself down by trying to run too fast throughout the summer.

Do these things and, when the summer weather breaks, you'll be ready to step up your Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon training for that final push into the taper.
