Seattle 2006 Kids Marathon
This is a letter we received regarding the Seattle Kids Marathon from a local PE Teacher.
The last 2 years Lowell Elementary has participated in the Seattle Kids Marathon. It is a great event that myself, parent and kids enjoy. The number of students participating from our school has nearly tripled in the last year. And I am certain from all the feedback I received that the number will go up again next year.
This yearly run provides many great opportunities and incentives for the children in the Seattle area to learn valuable lessons and be healthy at the same time. An emphasis of my PE program is to engage students in lifetime activities, especially aerobic activities. I incorporate aspects of the Seattle Kids Marathon into my Physical Education lesson plans, therefore all students have a positive affect from it.
Access to an event like this has so many positive outcomes. The Seattle Kids Marathon excites children to practice aerobic activities, engage in healthy lifestyles, work towards a goal, be part of a community, and so much more. I love listening to the students at lunch talking about their cool toe tokens that they "earned". Parents and kids alike have so many good things to say after the Marathon and I truly believe that it is transferred to their daily lives. Can't wait until next year :)
One of my parents wrote
I would like to express how much he enjoyed the experience. He hadn't really run much before so this was all new to him and he truly had fun logging the miles and seeing his progress. It was nice to have the support at school and then have a group to run with at the actual event. I think it would be very overwhelming to do it alone. He's in the midst of swim season right now, but he plans to do more running in the spring and is looking forward to doing the marathon again next year. His little sister wants to do it as well!
Thanks for organizing the marathon group and for all the other great things you do for our kids.

I had fun walking with my friends during recess, talking, and still getting miles accomplished.

Thank you again, keep up all the good work and support you give our kids and society
Sincerely,
