General Info
What is the date for the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010?
November 28, 2010
What is the date for next year's race?
The marathon is always the Sunday following Thanksgiving. For example, November 27, 2011; November 25, 2012.
How long is a marathon?
A marathon is 26.2 miles; a half marathon is 13.1 miles.
What happens if I become injured after I enter and cannot participate?
There are no medical comps, rollovers or refunds, nor can you transfer your registration to another person.

When and where is the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010 EXPO?
The Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010 EXPO is Friday, November 26th 11:00am-8:00pm and Saturday, November 27th 11:00am-7:00pm at the Westin Seattle's Grand Ballroom.


Registration
How can I see if I'm registered?
Click here to check your registration.
Can I transfer my registration to another person or roll over my registration to the next year?
There are absolutely no transfers, roll overs, or refunds given for any reason, including medical reasons. However, you can change your registration from one event to another. For example, if you registered for the marathon, you may change your registration to the half marathon. If you wish to change from the half marathon to the marathon, you would need to pay the difference between the price you paid for the half marathon and the current price for the marathon.
Can I register Day-of-Race?
There are no Day-of-Race registration or event changes. You may register at the Westin Seattle on Friday, November 26th, 11:00am-8:00pm or Saturday, November 27th, 11:00am-8:00pm. Event changes may be made at this time as well.
Can I change my event?
Yes. To change events, contact the SMA office by phone at 206.729.3660 or via email at info@seattlemarathon.org. The last opportunity to change events is at EXPO, November 26 & 27. If you wish to change from the half marathon to the marathon, you would need to pay the difference between the price you paid for the half marathon and the current price for the marathon.
What happens if I am unable to participate in the event after I register?
There are no refunds.

Bib & Chip Pickup
When can I pick up my Bib and Chip?
Bib and Chip Packet Pickup is on Friday November 26th 11:00am-8:00pm or Saturday November 27th 11:00am-8:00pm at the Westin Seattle. After picking up your packet, go through the EXPO to pick up your participant shirts and Goody Bags. The Seattle Westin is located at 1900 Fifth Avenue in downtown Seattle.
Can I pick up my race packet on Sunday?
There is no Day-of-Race Bib and Chip Packet Pick-up. All Bib and Chip Packets must be picked up on Friday November 26th or Saturday November 27th at The Westin Seattle.
Can someone else pick up my packet?
Yes. They will need your confirmation postcard or printout, or a note signed by you giving them permission to pick up your packet.
What do I do if I don't have a confirmation card?
All packets are organized by event and then alphabetically by last name. You will not need a confirmation card to pick up your packet. However, if you are picking up a packet for a friend, you will need his or her confirmation card or a note.

Timing & Results
Will I get an email with my results?
If you provide an email address you will receive an email with your results, within 10 minutes of crossing the finish line.
How is this race being timed?
All events will be timed using the Winning Time Chip Technology. Each participant is given a special, unique transponder that will be used to record your start and finish time. All results are based on Gun-time; however, you will also receive an "actual time," as well as split times along the course. The chip must be returned at the finish line. A $40 fee will be charged for each unreturned chip.
Where are the splits times recorded along the course?
Split times will be recorded at the half way point for each event.
May I use my Champion Chip?
No. This race is timed using the Winning Time Chip. It will be given to you when you pick up your packet and must be returned when you cross the finish line. The two systems are not compatible.

Boston Qualifier
Can the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010 be used as a Boston Qualifier?
Yes. The Boston Marathon accepts qualifying times from the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon. For a list of qualifying times, see the Boston Athletic Association website . We will send a complete list of finishers to the BAA within a couple weeks after the race.
Will the Boston Marathon check to confirm my time?
Yes. They will use the finisher list we provide them to check the time you put on your Boston Marathon registration form.
Will there be pacers for Boston qualifying times?
Yes. There are pacers for many of the Boston qualifying times, including 3:30, 3:45, 4:00 and 4:45.

The Course
How hilly is the course?
The course is moderately hilly with long stretches of flat. There is a course map with an elevation chart included in the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010 Event Guide. You may also view a downloadable PDF of the elevation chart here.
How long is the course open?
Due to traffic and safety concerns, it is necessary to officially re-open all event routes to regular vehicular traffic at 2:15 p.m. This allows for a 7-hour Marathon Walk finish and a 6-hour Marathon Run finish. There will be limited on-course aid stations, Course Marshals, and police support after the course closes. Participants may continue along the course after the official closure by obeying all standard traffic control devices. Finish line staff and essential services will remain until every athlete has completed the event. Additionally, all marathon participants still on the I-90 floating bridge after 11:00 a.m. will be bussed to the end of the bridge and allowed to finish the marathon from there (allows a 25 min/mile pace for walkers and an 18 min/mile pace for runners).
Are miles and kilometers marked on the course?
Yes. There is a mile marker for every mile on the course, and there is a kilometer marker every 5 kilometers.

The Start
What time does the race start?
Marathon Run at 8:15am, Half Marathon Run at 7:30am, Marathon Walk at 7:15am, Half Marathon Walk at 7:45am on Sunday, November 28, 2010.
Where is the Start Line?
Seattle Center in front of the Experience Music Project (EMP), between Broad and Harrison on 5th Ave. A map is located in the Official Event Guide and on the maps page of the website.
How far is the Start Line from The Westin Seattle?
About ¾ of a mile.
Can I walk to the start from The Westin Seattle?
Yes. Head NORTH on 5th Ave. Follow the Monorail track (running above 5th Ave.) to the start at 5th and Harrison. The start is approximately 8 blocks from The Westin Seattle.
What about parking?
Street parking around Seattle Center is free on Sunday, and there are also several pay lots in the area. Make sure to allow enough time to find a parking space and walk to the start line. For more info, see the parking map and parking directions here .
Are there buses/shuttles?
The Seattle Marathon Association does not provide shuttle service to the start. However, we do provide shuttle service from the Victory Recovery Area to The Westin Seattle after the race. The shuttle is free for participants and $2 for family and friends. Metro Transit provides bus service to the Seattle Center. See their website for details.

Medals & Awards
What awards will be given out?
The top 3 men and women overall, the top Master Man and Woman and the top three active military men and women will be given awards. Also, Age Division Awards in 5-year age groupings will be given. There will be awards for wheelchair participants.
Do you offer prize money?
No. The Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon is a family-oriented event designed to appeal to all categories of runners and walkers and, as such, does not offer monetary awards.
Do you give awards to walkers?
No. The walking events are non-competitive and have no awards. However, walkers will be timed and do receive the same finisher medal and amenities as the runners.
What time are they handing out awards?
Half Marathon Men's & Women's Overall awards at 9:30am; Half Marathon Age Division awards at 11:00am; Marathon Men's Overall awards at 1:30pm; Marathon Women's Overall awards at 12:00pm; Marathon Age Division awards at 1:30pm. All awards ceremonies will be in the Victory Recovery Area at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall.
Is the finisher medal the same for walkers and runners?
Yes. The medal is the same.

Participant & Finisher Shirts
Do I get a shirt with my entry or do I have to pay extra for it?
Registered participants receive a long-sleeved technical fabric shirt with their entry. Pick up your participant shirt at EXPO after you pick up your race packet. Additional souvenir-type Finisher shirts may be purchased, as well as other merchandise including hats and sweatshirts, online at www.seattlemarathon.org, at EXPO and the Victory Recovery Area in the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall.
How do I get a Finisher Shirt?
You may pre-order finisher shirts when you register for the event. Or, you may purchase them at the SMA online merchandise store . On event weekend, Finisher Shirts will be available for purchase at the merchandise booth at EXPO as well as the merchandise booth in the Victory Recovery Area . However you are not guaranteed a shirt unless you pre-order. Limited sizes and quantities are available on event weekend. After the event when all pre-ordered shirts have been picked up, all remaining shirts will be available for purchase at the SMA online merchandise store or by contacting the SMA office .
Where do I pick up my Finisher Shirt?
Finisher Shirts will be available for pickup in the Bib & Chip Packet Pickup area. Please pick up your packet first then your finisher shirt. Then proceed to EXPO to get your goody bag and participant shirt.

Pacers
Will there be pacers?
Yes. We will have the Super Jock 'n Jill/Chuckit Pacer Team for the Full and Half Marathon. They will be providing pacers for a Half Marathon finish time of 1:30, 1:45. 2:00, 2:20 and 2:45. Full Marathon paces will be provided for finish times of 3:30, 3:45, 4:00 and 4:45. These times are several Boston Qualifying times for different age groups. Check the Boston Athletic Association website for more details. If you would like to find out info about the pacers you may do so by inquiring at the SJJ booth in EXPO from 11:00pm-8:00pm Friday November 26th and 11:00am-7:00pm Saturday November 27th.

Can I bring my...?
Can I bring my MP3 player?
The answer is a qualified yes . The use of headsets is allowed during the race until 2:15 pm when the course re-opens to traffic. As a member of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), we follow their guidelines on headset use. RRCA does not encourage headphone use during its member races but does not disallow them as long as they are used safely. For this reason, SMA will allow headsets on the course only if it does not pose a safety risk. For safety reasons, it may be necessary for a course official to ask you to remove your headset/earphones during the race. You are required to comply or face disqualification and removal from the course.
Can I bring my Nordic Walking Stick?
Yes. Participants of the Marathon Walk and Half Marathon Walk are welcome to use walking sticks; however, please be courteous and mindful of participants around you.
Can I bring my dog?
No. Dogs are not allowed anywhere on the course, at the finish in Memorial Stadium or in the Victory Recovery Area.
Can I bring my baby in a stroller/jogger?
No. Strollers and baby joggers are not allowed on the course.
Can I bring my bike/skates/skateboard?
No wheels are allowed on the course except for registered wheelchairs and official course vehicles.

How far is it to the airport from the finish line?
About 15.59 Miles. Estimated time without traffic, 26 minutes.
Where can I sign up to volunteer?
Sign up online , or call the Seattle Marathon Association office to sign up as a volunteer. You may also sign up at EXPO on November 26th & 27th at The Westin Seattle. Go to the Info Booth to get signed up.
What energy drink will be provided at the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010?
Lemon - Lime Gatorade Endurance Formula.
What should I wear during the Run/Walk?
Breathable clothing such as Polypropylene and Coolmax are materials that wick away moisture and keep you at a comfortable temperature. Avoid cotton. Be aware that long runs may cause chafing. Wear appropriate clothing.
Where can I put clothing for after the race?
There will be an area for checking clothing at Memorial Stadium in the north side bleachers. A bag for clothing check will be provided in your goody bag.
What is the weather going to be like?
Historically, late fall weather in Seattle is cloudy but calm with temperatures in the low to mid 40s. Always expect rain. For details, click here .
What time and where is the pasta dinner?
The Carbo Load dinner is at 6:00 pm on Saturday November 27th at The Westin Seattle.
Is the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2010 an AIMS event?
Yes, and there are many more AIMS events .
