Following the successful Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon Baghdad Shadow Run, which took place in Baghdad, Iraq in November 2009, the Seattle Marathon Association is teaming up with MAJ Mike Moore, SSG Rick Walters and the Soldiers from Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) once again. This year, the Seattle Marathon Association and Amica Insurance will sponsor Soldiers from the First Corps, America’s Corps, from JBLM as they organize a team to run in the Seattle Marathon 5K Race: presented by South Sound Running on November 26th and the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon on November 27th as an Iraq/Afghanistan Remembrance Run in honor of those who died or were wounded in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This team from JBLM will consist of wounded warriors who will be participating in the 5K Race, accompanied by un-injured battle buddies, Soldiers, as well as some family members of Soldiers killed in battle. The Soldiers will also be hosting a booth at the Health+Fitness Expo to bring attention to the long struggle wounded Soldiers have on the road to recovery. In further support of the Soldiers, SMA has brought on Operation Ward 57 as an Official Charity Partner of the 2011 Event. This charity supports wounded warriors as they recover from severe injuries. Participants may donate to Operation Ward 57 at www.operationward57.org.
This year’s event will continue to foster the relationship with SMA and Amica Insurance and promises to be a first class event for all involved. MAJ Mark Piccone extends his sincere appreciation to SMA and Amica Insurance for their unparalleled support of the Soldiers and Families at Joint Base Lewis McChord.
