Iraq/Afghanistan Remembrance Run 2014
For a 5th year, following the successful Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon Baghdad Shadow Run, which took place in Baghdad, Iraq in November 2009, the Seattle Marathon Association and Amica Insurance are teaming up with Operation Ward 57 to organize an Iraq/Afghanistan Run for Remembrance team as a part of the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon on Sunday, November 30th, 2014 and the Seattle Marathon 5K Race: Santas vs Superheroes on Saturday, November 29th, 2014. The team will run/wheel/walk in honor of those who died or were wounded in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. For more info, see the Run for Remembrance Facebook page.
This team will consist of wounded warriors who will be participating in the 5K Race and the half/full marathon, accompanied by un-injured battle buddies, active duty service members, Veterans, family members, or anyone who supports our military. Operation Ward 57 will also be hosting a booth at the Health+Fitness Expo to bring attention to the long struggle wounded service members have on the road to recovery. In 2010, SMA brought on Operation Ward 57 as an Official Charity Partner. This charity supports wounded warriors as they recover from severe injuries. Participants may donate to Operation Ward 57 at www.operationward57.org.
This year’s event will continue to foster the relationship with SMA and Amica Insurance and promises to be a first class event for all involved. Baghdad Shadow Run organizer MAJ Mark Piccone extends his sincere appreciation to SMA and Amica Insurance for their unparalleled support of our service members and their families.
