Melanie Lincicum

2020-2021 Ambassador

Truth be told I didn’t “love” running until very late in the game. And it was forced, and by forced I mean 4am get out of bed and put on this 30 pound rucksack and start running NOW! forced. That was in 1995 at the Security Police Academy at Lackland AFB. I swore I would never run again because I was so fed up with running everywhere, but here we are 25 years later...
The best part of my day, without a doubt, is the 5am hour. Everyone is asleep, the roads are clear, it’s eerily quiet and I can get in a 10k before the sun is up. Rain, sleet, snow, sun, it doesn’t matter. In the last 15 years, I have completed over a dozen marathons and half marathons and ventured into the endurance race realm as a member of a community called 29029 Everesting. The premise is to run up a mountain, take a gondola ride down as many times as it takes to reach the equivalent height of Mt Everest (29029 feet) within a 36-hour time period.
I have two great kids who help me each year with The Pat Tillman Honor Run, a 4.2-mile family fun run around the Seattle waterfront to raise money for military veterans. This cause is very close to my heart as Pat Tillman was stationed at Fort Lewis while I was at McCord AFB before they merged into one joint base in 2010. As a family, we can usually be seen hiking Poo Poo Point in Issaquah at least once a month. My biggest inspiration comes from the stories of other runners, it’s fuel and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you on the road to the 2021 Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon.
