  • When is your summer marathon?

  • What is the difference between running and walking events?

    • All registrants may both run and/or walk as much as they’d like regardless of which race they are registered in. All registrants will receive an official time. However, only those registered as runners are eligible for awards.

 

REGISTRATION INFO

  • What happens if I cannot participate for any reason?

    • As a policy, we do not offer medical comps, rollovers, refunds or transfers. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

  • Can I transfer my registration to another person or roll over my registration to next year?

  • What is the online registration fee for?

    • The registration fee is collected by our registration platform (Athlinks) and covers their costs of operation.

  • Do I have to register online?

    • You may register by email, mail, fax or in person. See all of your options here.

  • How do I check to see if I’m already registered?

    • You can check to see if you are registered by following the links here.

  • I turned in my registration form, but when I check to see if I’m registered, nothing comes up. What do I do?

    • If you registered online and don’t see yourself registered, contact us.

    • If you recently turned in your registration form via email, fax, mail or in-person, it may take a few days to process. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the status of your registration.

  • I see that I’m registered, how do I get a confirmation emailed to me?

    • Follow the directions above to check to see if you're already registered. Once you confirm your registration, click on "Send confirmation email" to have a new email confirmation sent to you. Note the system can only send to the email address we have on file. If you need to change your email address, contact us.

  • Can I make changes to my registration after I register?

    • To correct items such as your contact info, estimated time, birth date, etc. please contact us.

    • To make changes to your registration (for example, full marathon to half marathon or 5k to 10k), use your Athlinks credentials to log in here and select "Change Race" next to your registration listing. Note that you have until the close of late registration to make race changes online. After close of late registration, you will have to make any races changes in person at packet pick-up. All such registration changes are associated with a fee based on the cost of the race.

  • Is there day-of registration?

    • No: Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon

    • Yes: First Tech Federal Credit Union Seattle Kids Marathon

    • Yes: Seattle Marathon Summer 5k/10k & Kids Fun Run

  • What discounts are available for registration?

    • Seniors: For people 60+, we offer a $10 discount. Simply check the Senior box on your registration to apply this discount.

    • Active Military: For active military members, we offer all of our races at early bird prices. Please contact us for a discount code.

    • Elite athletes: We offer comp entries to runners who can prove a qualifying time within the last 2 years. See qualifying times below.

    • Promotions: We offer multiple promotions throughout the year through social media, through our eNewsletter and through our many partners and community events. The best way to find out about any current promotions is to follow us on social media and subscribe to our eNewsletter.

  • Do you offer comped entries for elite athletes?

    • We offer comped entries for athletes who can prove qualifying times within the last 2 years. Please note that we only offer complimentary registration and do not cover any transportation, lodging, food or visa fees. The following is our list of qualifying elite athlete times for our races.

RACE PACKET PICKUP

  • Can I pick up my race packet on race day?

    • No: Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon

    • Yes: First Tech Federal Credit Union Seattle Kids Marathon

    • Yes: Seattle Marathon Summer 5k/10k & Kids Fun Run

  • If I’m unable to pick up my race packet during the times listed, what are my options?

    • You may send someone else to pick up your packet as long as they can show your confirmation email.

    • If you are unable to send someone else to pick up your packet contact us.

 

TIMING + RESULTS

  • How will I get my results?

    • Marathon/Half Marathon:

      • A results terminal will be set up in the Victory Recovery Area after the race that will allow you to see your results.

      • Your results will be accessible through your Athlinks.com profile immediately following the race. You may sign up for alerts through your Athlinks.com profile.

      • The Seattle Marathon website will post results within 24 hours of the race.

      • The office Results Issue will be published 2-3 weeks after the race.

    • Summer 5k/10k:​

      • Your results will be accessible through your Athlinks.com profile immediately following the race. You may sign up for alerts through your Athlinks.com profile.

      • The Seattle Marathon website will post results within 24 hours of the race.

      • The office Results Issue will be published 2-3 weeks after the race.

    • First Tech Seattle Kids Marathon & Summer Kids Fun Run:

      • These races are untimed and results are not tracked. However participation is noted in the Results Issue of the accompanying "adult" race.

  • How are the races being timed?

    • All timed events will be timed using embedded tag technology. Each participant is given a special, unique transponder that will be used to record your start and finish time. This disposable timing device is incorporated into each race bib and does not need to be returned after the race.

    • All results are based on net/actual time (not gun time, as previously practiced). Each participant's time will start when they cross the start line. Split times on the marathon and half marathon courses will be also be recorded.

    • In order to receive an accurate time, please confirm that throughout the race your bib is:

      • Clearly visible on the front of the torso

      • Unaltered and unmodified — Do not fold or wrinkle

      • Pinned in all four corners

      • Not covered by jackets, belts, water bottles, etc.

    • Please note that kids races are un-timed.

  • Where are the split time recorded along the course?

    • Split times are only recorded for the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon. Split time information will be updated as available on the marathon page.

  • May I use my Champion Chip?

    • No. This race is timed using timing tags incorporated into each bib. The two systems are not compatible.

 

BOSTON QUALIFIER

  • Can the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon be used as a Boston Qualifier?

    • Yes. The Boston Marathon accepts qualifying times from the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon. For a list of qualifying times, see the Boston Athletic Association website. We will send a complete list of finishers to the BAA within a couple weeks after the race. Please keep in mind that the timing of available results of the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon and open registration for the Boston Marathon will influence which year you are eligible to apply for the Boston Marathon.

  • Will the Boston Marathon check to confirm my time?

    • Yes. They will use the finisher list we provide them to check the time you put on your Boston Marathon registration form.

  • Will there be pacers for Boston qualifying times?

    • Yes. There are pacers for many of the Boston qualifying times. For the list of pacer times, please see our pacer information on our Expo page.

 

THE COURSE

  • How long is the course open?

    • The marathon and half marathon finish lines will remain open until the last participant crosses. The courses will remain open supported until 2:15pm. After this time, participants will be allowed to complete the race, but must follow normal traffic laws as a pedestrian.

    • The Summer 5k/10k, Kids Fun Run and Seattle Kids Marathon courses will remain open until the last runner crosses the finish line.

  • Are miles and kilometers marked on the course?

    • Marathon: Yes. Mile markers are placed on each course (either on portable toilets or on stand-alone signs. Select kilometer signs are placed on the course

    • Summer 5k/10k: Mile markers only are placed on the course.

  • Where are the best places to watch the runners during the race?

    • Spectators may watch marathoners downtown along 5th Ave, along the Burke Gilman Trail, at Gas Works Park and inside Memorial Stadium.​

  • How far is the Start Line from The Westin Seattle?

    • About 3/4 of a mile.

  • Can I walk to the start from The Westin Seattle?

    • Yes. Head NORTH on 5th Ave. Follow the Monorail track (running above 5th Ave.) to the start at 5th and Harrison. The start is approximately 8 blocks from The Westin Seattle.

  • What about parking?

    • Marathon & Kids Marathon: Street parking around Seattle Center is free on Sunday, and there are also several pay lots in the area. Make sure to allow enough time to find a parking space and walk to the start line. For more info, see the parking details on the marathon page.

    • Summer 5k/10k: Limited parking is available in the lower lot of Seward Park near the start line. Additional parking is available in the upper lot a short walk from the start line.

  • Are there buses/shuttles?

    • Marathon: The Seattle Marathon Association does not provide shuttle service to the start. However, we do provide shuttle service from the Victory Recovery Area to The Westin Seattle after the race. The shuttle is free for participants and $2 for family and friends. Metro Transit provides bus service to the Seattle Center. See their website for details.

    • Summer 5k/10k: Seattle Metro bus #50 stops close to Seward Park entrance. 

 

MEDALS + AWARDS

  • What awards will be given out?

    • Marathon/Half Marathon:

      • All finishers will receive a medal corresponding to their race (full/half marathon).

      • The top 3 men and women overall will receive non-cash prize packages at the finish line.

      • The top Master Man and Woman and the top three active military men and women will be given non-cash awards. These awards will be mailed in the weeks following the race.

      • Top 10 Age Division Awards in 5-year age groupings will be given. Age divisions are as follows: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, and 85 and over. These non-cash awards will be mailed in the weeks following the race.

      • Wheelchair participants will also be mailed non-cash awards in the weeks following the race.

    • Summer 5k/10k:​

      • All finishers will receive an event medal.​

      • Top 3 men and women overall in both 5k and 10k races will receive cash prizes at the finish line.

        • 5K

          • $100 – 1st Place Male & Female

          • $50 – 2nd Place Male & Female

          • $25 – 3rd Place Male & Female

        • ​​10K

          • $200 – 1st Place Male & Female

          • $100 – 2nd Place Male & Female

          • $50 – 3rd Place Male & Female

      • In addition, in the week following the race, non-cash awards will be emailed to the top three age division runners (male & female), top 10 overall active military runners, and top masters runners (40+ male & female) in both events. Age divisions are as follows: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89 and 90+.

    • Summer Kids Fun Run:​

      • All finishers will receive a souvenir bookmark​.

    • First Tech Federal Credit Union Seattle Kids Marathon:​

      • All finishers will receive a medal.​

  • Do you offer prize money?

    • No: Marathon/Half Marathon​

    • Yes: Summer 5k/10k

  • Do you give awards to walkers?

    • All walkers will receive the same finisher medal as registered runners. However, walking events are non-competitive and are not eligible for other awards. Registered walkers will still be timed.

  • When will I get my age division award?

    • Awards will be mailed out 3-6 weeks after the event.

  • Is the finisher medal the same for walkers and runners?

    • Yes. The medal is the same.

 

PARTICIPANT + FINISHER SHIRTS

  • Do I get a shirt with my race entry or do I have to pay extra for it?

    • Included: Registration to any of our events includes a participant shirt.

      • Full/Half marathon: long-sleeved technical fabric shirt picked up at EXPO.

      • First Tech Seattle Kids Marathon: short-sleeved cotton blend shirt picked up at EXPO.

      • Summer 5k/10k: short-sleeved technical fabric shirt picked up with race packet.

      • Summer Kids Fun Run: short-sleeved cotton blend shirt picked up with race packet.

    • Additional: Participants may purchase optional souvenir-type finisher and specialty apparel.

      • Finisher apparel includes special tank tops, jackets, hoodies and tees and must be pre-ordered and picked up with race packet.

      • Specialty apparel includes hats, jackets, tees and tanks and may be purchased online, at EXPO or at the Victory Recovery Area.

  • How do I order optional finisher apparel?

    • You may pre-order finisher shirts when you register for the event. Or, you may purchase them at shop.seattlemarathon.org. Finisher apparel will be available at the events on a limited basis while supplies last.

  • Where do I pick up my pre-ordered finisher apparel?

    • Pre-ordered finisher items can be picked up at packet pickup (encouraged) or at the Victory Recovery Area after the race. Any items not picked up by the end of the event can be mailed for an additional shipping fee as arranged by contacting info@seattlemarathon.org. Any unclaimed items will be available for sale without refund after a month.

 

PACERS

  • Will there be pacers?

    • Yes. The Seattle Green Lake Running Group will be our pacers this year for the Full and Half Marathon. They will be providing pacers for a Half Marathon finish time of 1:30, 1:35, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:05, 2:15, 2:20, 2:30 and 2:50. Full Marathon pacers will be provided for finish times of 3:00, 3:05, 3:10, 3:20, 3:25, 3:30, 3:35, 3:40, 3:50, 3:55, 4:05, 4:20.

 

CAN I BRING MY...?

  • Can I bring my MP3 player?

    • The use of headsets highly discouraged, but not outright prohibited at our events. As a member of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), we follow their guidelines on headset use. RRCA does not encourage headphone use during its member races but does not disallow them as long as they are used safely. For this reason, if you choose to use a headset on the course, you may be asked by a course official to remove them for safety reasons. You are required to comply or face disqualification and removal from the course.

  • Can I bring my Nordic Walking Stick?

    • Yes. Participants of the Marathon Walk and Half Marathon Walk are welcome to use walking sticks; however, please be courteous and mindful of participants around you.

  • Can I bring my dog?

    • For the Summer 5K/10K, dogs on leashes are allowed. Owners are responsible for any incidents involving their dogs.

    • For the Marathon, dogs are not allowed anywhere on the course, at the finish in Memorial Stadium or in the Victory Recovery Area.

  • Can I bring my baby in a stroller/jogger?

    • For the Summer 5K/10K, strollers are allowed and respectfully asked to start in the back of the queue for safety reasons.

    • For the Marathon/Half Marathon, strollers are discouraged, but may be permitted to start in the back of the queue for safety reasons.

  • Can I bring my bike/skates/skateboard?

    • No. No wheels are allowed on the course except for registered wheelchairs and official course vehicles.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

  • How far is it to the airport from the marathon finish line?

    • The finish line is 15.5 miles from Sea-Tac airport and estimated travel time without traffic is approximately 30 minutes.

  • Where can I sign up to volunteer?

  • What energy drink will be provided at the Seattle Marathon Association events?

    • Lemon - Lime Gatorade Endurance Formula.

  • What should I wear during the Run/Walk?

    • Breathable clothing such as Polypropylene and Coolmax are materials that wick away moisture and keep you at a comfortable temperature. Avoid cotton. Be aware that long runs may cause chafing. Wear appropriate clothing.

  • Where can I put clothing for after the race?

    • For the Summer 5K/10K, there will be a bag check tent near the registration area.

    • For the Marathon, there will be an area for checking clothing at Memorial Stadium in the north side bleachers. A bag for clothing check is available in the Registration Room when you pick up your bib and chip. Bags will also be available on Sunday morning at the clothing check area at Memorial Stadium. Clothing check opens at 6:00am.

  • Will there be live tracking?

    • Yes. You can receive Athlete Updates from the course by signing up with Athlinks. These updates can be shared via text, Facebook and Twitter.

  • Are there shower facilities?

    • For the Marathon, there are showers facilities located inside Memorial Stadium for freshening up after the race.

  • What is the weather going to be like?

    • For the Summer 5K/10K/Kids Fun Run, historically, late August weather in Seattle is sunny and in the mid-70s.

    • For the Marathon, historically, late fall weather in Seattle is cloudy but calm with temperatures in the low to mid-40s. Always expect rain.

  • What is the Charity Partner Program? How can I make a donation to a Charity Partner?

    • Participants have an option to donate to the Charity Partner of their choice via their donation link on our Charity Partner's page. Some partners have opportunities to fund raise and participate in our marathon with their team.
